Beijing Plans to Access 1,000 Star-rated Homestays in Five Years

On June 16, Beijing held a series of press conferences to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, “Beijing Promote Comprehensively”. At the meeting, Kang Sen, deputy secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of Agriculture and Work, deputy director of the Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and spokesperson, introduced that in terms of rural industry, Beijing will focus on country houses and plan to assess 1,000 star-rated hotels in five years and thus more than 5,800 traditional farmhouses could be transformed and upgraded to improve the modern service level of rural tourism.

Kangsen introduced that in recent years, Beijing’s rural industries have become more diversified. Beijing has implemented the leisure agriculture tour, focusing on creating more than 10 high-quality routes, more than 100 beautiful leisure villages, more than 1,000 leisure agricultural parks, and nearly 10,000 folk-custom recipients. During the “Dragon Boat Festival” holiday, Beijing received a total of 1.846 million tourists for rural tour, a year-on-year increase of 12.9 times and recovered to 89.3% in the same period in 2019; operating income was 251.36 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.9 times, and a year-on-year increase of 14.2%.

In terms of improving the rural living environment, Beijing implemented the “One Hundred Village Demonstration and One Thousand Village Renovation” project, which completed the task of renovating the living environment of 3254 villages, and made important progress in the construction of beautiful villages: the coverage rate of harmless sanitary household toilets reached 99.34%; the number of villages covered by sewage treatment facilities has increased to 1,806; a total of 1,500 waste classification demonstration villages and 1,000 green villages have been created. 3386 villages and about 1.3 million households in Beijing have achieved clean heating, which has made positive contributions to winning the battle to defend the blue sky.
